Professional Development

On-going

I've always been interested in engineering as a broader topic and try and get involved with as many different aspects. During my time at university I got in contact with several different engineering manufacturers to organize site tours for myself and several other students. This helped us understand the difficulties and constraints involved with various techniques. It also helped introduce to new methodologies, such as tube laser cutting, which we used at later dates for uni or personal projects. We also attended various different show and exhibitions to try and keep up to date with the latest technologies and trends. These tended to be from various different industries, such as packaging, automotive, agriculture, quarrying and mining. Again this helped highlight the specific challenges and difficulties with each different industry.

I have also been a member of various different engineering institutions over the years; including the IMechE, IAgrE and NAFEMS. From these I have attended various different events and talks. Again these are with the aim of developing my knowledge in all areas of engineering. From June 2017 till 2021 I was also a member of NAFEMS, with the aim of attending some of their training courses to help develop my knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and simulation. I am also a member of the IMechE and I am currently working towards my chartered engineering qualification. I started this during my placement year on the MPDS (Monitored Professional Development Scheme) and continue to work towards this. As part of my roles I have worked with Altair software and completed Altair training, this again is with the aim of developing my knowledge in FEA.
